Well, David, you made my day.  The boards I had compared with earlier
were rev 7.  I powered up a rev 5, and it has the same video left
shift as my rev 3... so there's nothing wrong with the rev 3 board.
Thanks -- that saved me a lot of time.

Now so I understand, is it the hsync pulse change that is resulting in
what I'm seeing?   And how could I change the pulse to 3.9us?  Clearly
not done in software...  Do those books show the differences?
