In basis I'm just out to get lowercase (on the display) for my II+. So I

option would be to just burn eprom and replace the character generator.
I have a programmer and I have suitable eproms. What I miss is a clear
description of what modifications I need to make. - You need to add an
extra bit for the decoding don't you? Or does the RFI version bring all
the necessary bits to the character generator for it to handle also
lowercase?

The Rev 7 and later boards (including your RFI board) do have all the
required lines connected to the CHARGEN socket - DL6 to A9 (pin 22)
and DL7 to A10 (pin 19). On the output O7 (pin 17) is the FLASH ENABLE
signal.

GSE Reactive sell a chip with lowercase (see
http://www.gse-reactive.com/product_info.php?products_id=163 where you
can also download the data to do DIY programming).

I replaced my 2316B ROM with a 2532 and used AN3 (via a length of
wire) to select between two different character sets.

Thanks David

The link there for the ROM files is broken but I found it anyway
http://www.reactivecomputers1.gotdns.com/Public/Apple%20II%20Items/ROM_and_JEDEC/II_&_II+/
and there I found also a plain lowercase file. The pig-font is funny but I like the original font. It triggers the nostalgic feeling which is why I have this hobby. I love these old machines. Thanks to Henry and William for providing the files too.

I did try it immediately and, after a little trouble getting the old DATAIO series 22 going with promlink, my II+ had lowercase. Great success!

I can still remember how things work but sometimes I need a little time for things to appear from my memory. I should write down everything for next time with the series 22. Part of the problem is that I have a number of old pc's and couldn't find my previous promlink setup and had to work from scratch. The series 22 is the only programmer I have access to that can program anything smaller that 2764. Many of the other programmers claim to do 2716, 2732 and 2732A but fail in doing so.

The only thing needed on the RFI version was the 2716. So now I need no 80col card (I'm not doing any wordprocessing on the II+). At least not when buying from USA is the only option and postage is about $30.
