Sparse files were available already in Apple DOS 3.3 as well as in CP/M-80,
both of which predated ProDOS.
In MS-DOS though, sparse files had vanished - they reappeared in Windows-NT,
if you used an NTFS rather than a FAT partition.
Of course Unix supported sparse files all the time....
