I agree. It was my first microcomputer, and that experience with the
6502 favorably disposed me toward the Apple line even before I knew the
details.
I just returned home from the VCF east and was there for Chuck Peddle's
video conference. Talk about a great guy. It was a thrill to see him live
via video and hear the stories about MOS and Motorola and the beginning of
the 6502. The KIM-1 was the first computer for the 6502 and was sold at the
same time that they were selling the 6502 out of the hotel room for $25
each. When Chuck mentiioned Steve Job's being one of the guys who bought a
6502 that day it really made me realize that it was a small community back
then.
That's interesting--I would have expected it to be Woz, not Jobs...
An interesting thing is that Chuck said he stopped by the "garage" to help
Woz get the Apple 1 working. I had never known that until Saturday.
The microcomputing community was pretty small and close-knit in those
early days, and Chuck probably considered himself the equivalent of
an "application engineer" for MOS Technology's customers. ;-)
