Greetings,
I have been scouring the web to find a copy of the AE Vulcan GS/OS
driver. I've got a 40 meg Vulcan and its performance seems relatively
slow. I have heard rumors that the GS/OS driver speeds things up, so I
would like to obtain a copy and try it out.
Another poster to this group (macdog) was kind enough to send me the
Vulcan files in his possession, but those were the Vulcan files for
DOS 3.3 and ProDOS. The Vulcan hard drives came with a separate 3.5"
floppy containing GS/OS software: The driver, a Finder icon file for
Vulcan HDDs, the Interleaver app, and a couple other pieces of
software.
Although several Apple II archives have the DOS 3.3 and ProDOS Vulcan
files, I have been completely unable to find the Vulcan GS/OS disk
image. I would be most grateful if any of you could send me any of the
following:
1) A disk image of the Vulcan GS/OS 3.5" floppy
or
2) The GS/OS Vulcan driver file itself, which was named "VULCAN"
3) The GS/OS Vulcan icon file. I don't remember what it was named.
Also, if any of you happen to know exactly what this driver does, I'd
be interested to know. My working theory was that it allows the GS/OS
to address the Vulcan in a more efficient / faster manner than is
possible by whatever generic block device interface the GS uses by
default. However, I have also seen an old post on usenet where someone
was saying something vague about the Vulcan GS/OS driver having
something to do with caching. Any info will be appreciated.
Kindest Regards,
Rusty
