It's a shame 5.1 was introduced just as everything Apple II was collapsing. But, that's the way it goes. No, that's the way someone decided to do it. There were choices.FWIW the better business applications for the TRS-80 Model 1 came at the tail end of it's life, like LeScript.
Of course, the natural decline of a platform is convolved with the rising state of the application art, so it's not surprising that there are late-breaking fine programs on failing platforms. But the majority of the software development community has by that time already read the tea leaves and abandoned the platform in search of greener pastures. The exception might be small firms that have invested a year or two to create an application and continue even in the face of lackluster prospects. Some even specialize in serving residual niche markets. -michael NadaNet file server for Apple II computers!
