Patents are good for one thing in particular. When the venture capital people ask "Do you have a patent?" you can say "Yes" and they are happy.

Thus demonstrating that they do not understand that the value of a
company is the creativity of its people.

Protecting where you were is worthless until you stop moving.  ;-)
