Sorry about taking so long to reply. Things have been hectic here.
Anyway yes, it was over a serial line.
I've successfully done a lot of transfers using the same connection using
ZMODEM.

I didn't know this. When I get the old PC running again I'll use it to test.
I can't right now because I put all my Apple gear in the back room, where
there is no PC currently.

That only occurs if I try to transfer an image to a larger destination
media. Ie the IIgs ramdisk. I make it slightly larger than the size of a
5.25" disk because there is no exact equivalent.
In case you are wondering, ProDOS images don't seem to complain much, and
some DOS3.3 images work too. I can understand why DOS3.3 images are hit and
miss using that method though.
