Is the real issue getting the files over to the IIgs or keeping them there?
I'm a IIgs newbie but recently I've invested a very large amount of time
and effort into solving the storage problem for myself.
You are right that using serial would take a while but not be prohibitive
really. If you already know what you want to send across, set it up and go
to bed.
If the issue is with the CF card on the PC end there isn't much chance you
will damage anything. CF, well multicard readers are very inexpensive now.
For example I got another one recently that cost me AU$7 from Aldi.
If it's a storage solution you are after, then CFFA would probably be your
best bet. Copy across the large amount of files you want using the card
reader. After that for smaller things just use the serial cable if you are
worried about wear and tear on the CFFA and CF card.
Then there's another option. Get yourself a cheap classic mac. Something
like an LC (Can someone confirm this for me?). The Macintosh Classic isn't
as good because the screen can't be turned off.
Anyway get an Apple serial cable and set up the Mac as a fileserver. The
IIgs can boot from the Mac and even use it in 8-bit mode as a drive.
I think you could also put a SCSI CD-ROM on the Mac and share that too. I'm
less than certain though.
Tristan.
