In theory it does. In practice, would most of the required libraries
for 'full compatibility' run correctly when compiled on a 16 bit
machine? Probably not. So much code out there assumes both sizeof(int)
>= 4, and/or sizeof(int) == sizeof(int*)
It would be an interesting project to get working, but you'd need to
cross-compile. The GNU toolchain is too heavy for a 2.8Mhz machine,
and even the best accelerators would leave the environment less than
tolerable, IMO.
Although, I admit the 'cool' factor of having uClinux self-host on a
IIgs is pretty high.
