Stylewriter original

I have been trying to get a Stylewriter I to print from my IIGS. I had
one that came from a school auction with a dead power supply, but of
course, a 9.5v plug is not that easy to find. I found that it worked
when 12v was applied. I used it and only powered it up when I wanted
to print. I found the cartridges are still out there since the BC-10
was so widely used. That printer eventually gave out, or so I thought,
due to the high voltage. It would print just fine for some time. But
now, I think the cartridge just dried up and the printer may be OK.

I just got another Stylewriter that is in superb condition. It even
came with a sealed cartridge. I opened that one up and put a kleenex
to the bottom and it make marks. I tried to print a page and on got
about 10 lines before the cartridge gives out. If I hold the kleenex
and swing the cartridge around to draw ink down, I can print the same
ten lines and then nothing.

I put alcohol on the print holes and let it soak for a while. That
doesn't help.

Is this just a lost cause?

I have also obtained a parallel card, Harmonie drivers and Pointless
fonts. Finding a working HP 550 or 500 is something else.

Any recommendations or thoughts? Also, my IIGS has a ZipGS, sound
card, RAM Fast SCSI, 4MB card. Are there any slot restrictions to
where the parallel should go. I do like to use AppleTalk occasionally
to connect to a CC.

Thanks,
Robert
