Charlie,

I've never heard of any drive compatibility problems between the
platinum //e and the non-platinum //e (enhanced or original ROMs) -
that doesn't mean there isn't any, just that I've never heard of any...
 ;-)   I'd be interested if you have found such a problem.

One of the best sites I've come across for drive compatibility is:

The above site in combination with the A2 FAQ pretty much cover all of
the old drives pretty thoroughly.
