Re: Bitten by my own "cleverness"
I don't know Apple2 tape systems, but my Video Genie cassettes are still
good 26 years later (low-noise audio cassettes). My old notes
i guess i got a bit off the topic..i think also my "tapes" the 2120's are
ok....but i have gotten 2 apple ii 40sc tape units off ebay...and another 3
via a pawn shop friend over the years and a couple 3rd party ones ..all have
had issues with the middle ..usually pink...rubber wheel in the center of
the tape unit when you look in the slot...
they all simply grind into dust when you attempt to run a tape via the
drive...the rubber? or equiv must get old after 10 or more years..again i
have one unit that is mint a sc40 but...have not tried it yet..
i guess i just have to find someone who knows vcr or tape unit repair and
see if there is a 'newer' wheel deally you can replace
just as a further note...this is scsi 2120 type units i've had either apple
or ibm or even the scsi versions in a ibmpc back in the day...
the units that were prev to that ...ie cassetes like the b-sider or what was
it called...st-600A cassettes what were they 60mb..they work fine....
dc2000 tape units (ie apple 40sc) 40mb and the dc2120's seem to have this
wheel/implosion/deteroration problem
anyway.....test your apple 40sc before you buy it i guess or know how to fix
such if the prob pops up
