Yes, that's right the part numbers of the 820-0001-03 and 820-0001-04
boards are underneath the CPU socket. If you remove the CPU you'll see
it. But these boards can be distinguished via the memory select blocks
as well: In mid 1979 Apple changed from the -03 board to the -04 board.
The -03 board had memory select jumpers which were socketed and could
be removed/changed, whereas the -04 boead had three 16-16-16 memory
select jumpers soldered to the board with no sockets.

I suppose the reason was that this way the plus could no longer be
populated with 4k memory banks.

Just for curiority: What is the Serial number of your computer, and
what is the manufacturing date of the main board (the handwritten
number in the white area in the corner of the boead)?
