Re: Apple //c Technical Reference Manual
I realize this is a couple of months old, but I wanted to chime in with my
knowledge.
It seems there is alot of confusion as to the "version" of the //c tech
reference manual. I have a copy with the following details:
ISBN 0-201-17727-7
Second Printing, Feb 1986.
I searched Amazon for that ISBN number, and it appears that they have the
wrong details there as Amazon indicates that it only has 432 pages, but my
copy has 498 pages. page 432 lands me somewhere in the middle of the ROM
listings.
Now I bought this book in the late 80's early 90's (my high school / college
days are a little foggy in my memory banks.) As far as I know this was the
last edition that was published for the //c. It is a wire bound book from
AW.
It does contain the UniDisk ROM listing (says so right on the cover.) But a
quick scan of the TOC and index does not seem to indicate any information /
reference to the memory expansions slot. As I understand it, if your //c
can support a UniDisk, than it has the memory expansion slot... at least my
//c does (and I do have both a unidisk and a ram expansion board.) It gives
block diagrams of most major systems, and pinouts for most all chips (IOU,
TMG, MMU, IWM, etc) It also has about 5 pages of schematics, and nowhere do
I find reference to the mem expansion port.
On a side note, you have to love the comments in the rom listings:
Disk II Boot Code:
"The following code is sacred in it's present form. To change it would
cause volcanos to erupt, the ground to shake, and ProDOS not to boot!"
<code>
"Code beyond this point is not sacred... It may be perverted in any manner
by any pervert."
I would love nothing more than to pull about the wire binding and scan this
thing, but considering the time it would take to do so, it just doesn't
sound like any fun.
Thanks,
Justin
