Keep the stick around anyway - those particular Apple joysticks had a
particularly flaky pair of tactile switches for the buttons which tend
to die, and believe me, those things are difficult to replace.

If you end up with another Apple stick with dodgy buttons, you'll have
the spare parts to construct a working one. Personally I'd try to find
one of the CH joysticks, those things are unbelievably hardy.
