I've been thinking of digging out one of my 8 or 16 bit machines to
play one of the older Ultima games. I played U5 about half way through
on my C128 about a decade ago. But a corrupt disk caused me to never
get around to finishing it. I've played U6 all the way through on a
the MS-DOS version. However, I was thinking of trying U5 again or
U3/U4. I own essentially every type of machine from the 80's and
90's.
I have every Commodore system, an Apple IIgs, and an Amiga 500.
However, I read several websites that said U5 stinks on the Amiga, but
how is U4? I haven't seen any mention of an Apple IIgs version of any
Ultima series, so that means I'd wind up playing the generic Apple II
version, right?
The only reason I'm posting this is because whatever system and game I
choose I'll have to do some amount of work to get the variety of disks
converted over to the real platform (I don't want to use an emulator)
and I currently do not have any complete working disk sets for any of
them. And does anyone know a good place to download the Amiga or
Apple II versions?
Some things I've already considered would be that the Apple II version
might load from disk a lot quicker (and I know there is a lot of disk
activity on these games) but the Apple II version would have no music
like the Commodore 64/128. Which trade-off is best? Screenshots I
saw on the internet show the graphics to be about the same.
So there is the dilema. I eagerly await responses. (Yes this was
cross-posted, but please no flame wars between Apple/Commodore, etc..)
