Ramworks III problem

I've got an enhanced IIe that seems to dislike the RamWorks III board
I've put in.  With the RWIII, AppleWorks won't boot, complaining that
it needs an 80-column-capable machine.  Booting to BASIC and entering
"PR#3" results in an 80-column screen filled with garbage.

The 80-column functionality on my RamWorks III seems to have failed.
Is there an easy fix (i.e., IC replacement) for this or is it safe to
consider it scrap?

Appleworks either complains that no 80 column card is present or boots
up to a screen of "trash" characters.  A PR#3 command results in the
same "trash".
