NTSC, PAL and SECAM will all eventually be replaced with digital
television formats, be it HDTV or SDTV. In my country, Sweden,
ground-based PAL TV transmissions will cease completely in less
than 1.5 years - parts of the country already has digital-only
ground based TV transmissions. Satellite TV transmissions in PAL
ceased several years ago. PAL will probably continue to live some
additional years in the cable TV networks though, but in some
15 to 20 years PAL will probably be completely gone (except among
those who enjoy using vintage equipment).
NTSC will most likely meet the same fate.
