Re: InternetModem Updated
This program is a modem emulator. And yes, I had the BBS running through
this before I got the ethernet modem. It is possible to dial out to a
usenet server (using FV code) and exchange messages, but this is rather slow
depending on the size and number of messages to be exchanged. I had written
a windows program to do this and then "stage" the messages on the server for
FV to grab at intervals. It worked fine, but after I upgraded my server
hardware (900Mhz 32bit to 3Ghz 64bit) it no longer worked. I could still
exchange messages with usenet on the server, but FV couldn't download the
messages from the server (high rate of character loss). I even tried
putting a delay between each character sent from the server (to emulate a
9600 baud connection) but still couldn't get it to work properly. Since
there is virtually zero interest in a single-user BBS, I decided not to mess
with it any more and shut it off.
Now I would like to know who would be interested in a free chat service that
would be telnettable from any computer running a terminal program (Including
Proterm). But I'll address that in a new thread.
