This is great news.
Now I need to find one.

As the monitor is no longer generally available here, I went looking
for a later model that may have the same features. I was expecting the
Horizontal frequency to be ~15Hz

I've had a look at the specs for this monitor:

and note Horiz. Rate (kHz)   31-81 (Analog)
Why does it work without the Aptus1?
