And once you allow people asking about Macintoshes here, then you risk opening a flood of such posts.
Unlikely - there are plenty of eager self-appointed topic cops in the newsgroup. I've done it myself. Most people who are here by mistake get the clue, and there hasn't been any flagrant ongoing abuse.
And the question he asked was just as applicable here as .mac - if he had not put "mackintosh" in the subject line, he probably wouldn't have gotten zinged.
At least Linards was tactful, but some people are less so. Why not show people how friendly we are and invite them to learn more about the Apple II rather than breaking out the virtual tar and feathers.
