Well, not exactly recent but I will describe this situation that
occurred in 1993.

I was looking in the local paper and I noticed that someone was
selling off old and used computer gear. After contacting this seller
by phone (who was an ex-scientist) I agreed to meet him at his
residence on a weekend afternoon.

Upon arriving, the seller led me into his basement which was awash
with a huge amount of computer gear. He proceeded to show me which
items were for sale and I immediately noticed that he had scores of
vintage Apple's and associated peripherals. After looking around for
an hour or so I obtained the following for a sum of $80 (Australian):

3 x Apple Lisa 2/10 systems (all working with hard drives and spares)
4 x Apple //c's (2 with ROM Rev 0, the other two with ROM Rev 3)
2 x Apple //c flat panel displays (one sealed w/manual, one open)
2 x Apple ProFile hard drives (one flaky, the other working)
1 x Apple IIgs upgrade kit for enhanced //e
Numerous Apple // interface cards (incl Slinky, DB19 Floppy, Transwarp
//e, Z-80, Profile, Wildcard etc)

This was quite a find and I'm sure the seller himself wasn't aware of
the value that some of these items would fetch. The //c flat panel
displays were an incredible find as I had never seen such beasts.

I still have all of the above items today except the three Lisa 2/10
systems. I stupidly sold one of them to an enthusiast and the other
two were dismantled for parts after their screens went dead and were
taking up too much storage space. *sigh* what an idiot I was to
offload these Lisa's considering how much they're worth now :(
