OK, perhaps we're arguing semantics here? There *is* an uncompressed GIF
format, the motivation for which derived from the desire to avoid paying
royalties to Unisys for the LZW compression scheme.
What I meant was, LZW was the only *compression* (in the strict sense of
the word) option.
BTW uncompressed GIF images are larger than the raw image.
FWIW my vote is for PNG! ;)
