Re: ATX -> Apple2e powersupply adaption.
Done. Mostly.
I rebuilt the supply, did a few alterations and managed to find a place
to shove the regulator and extra caps.
After rearranging, repairing and reassembling, I powered it up without
anything attached. The fan did the dreaded death twitch, then no more
movement.
Usually when a power supply does this, it means the internal overload
protection was triggered and the outputs die, But not this time.
Thed voltages from the outputs seem about right. Well, they're all
higher than normal, but it is under no-load conditions so it is to be
expected.
The no-load floating voltage also suggests that there is no overload
problem.
I suspect a dodgy capacitor.
If I can find some non-critical device around the place that draws some
current (I'm thinking a knackered hard drive), I'll do another voltage
test.
If it checks out, and I can fix the fan problem one way or another,
I'll leave it run for a while. Only then will I deem it worthy of the
apple.
I just hope I get it working right. I have the extra space that an
external supply affords, and a supply smaller than the (non-sealed) C64
brick.
