The sentence refers to their willingness to cancel the product -- it
does not glamorize the bad product or that  they madde a bad product.
It is acknowledgement they are not controlled by idiots.
That is a good thing, always.
The mistake has not been shown to be 'bumbling incompetence' -- only
that it was a bad product, or at a bad time, or not marketed well, or
some other related issue.

You don't have to 'sneer' at IE -- but you don't have to build
specifically for it. And I'd bet NO ONE has ever lost money by making a
broadly-compatible Web site. Many companies HAVE lost business by
making their site IE-only!
