Re: Backing Up Vulcan

Really!? This drive dates to the time before my first HD experiences,
so the stepper motor shaft sticking out (if that's what it is) threw
me. Have HDs changed that much!? Apart from the prices, I mean. ;-)

First I tried a USB IDE adaptor. I really wish that had worked, but
didn't hold much hope. Anyway, then I tried a fairly recent PC with
auto detection. No go. Finally a '96 vintage PC from work that allowed
auto or manual CHS settings. Again no luck.

I disabled the advanced drive options in the BIOS, unplugged all other
IDE devices. The connector is keyed, so no mistakes likely there. Now I
really wish I'd tested it in the GS before I pulled it out of the
Vulcan supply and brought it to Japan. <:-|

Anything else you can think of?

Cheers,
Nick.
