What you need is to be able to connect your big computer to the
remote.  Either you know how to do that, or you need to find out.

Then there's the issue of using your IIC as a terminal to the big
computer.  

There are at least two Linux HOWTOs available that last time
I checked did cover the issue of connecting a terminal to a Linux
based computer:
  Mac-Terminal
  Text-Terminal-HOWTO

You run a terminal emulator on the IIC, connect it to the big computer
over an RS232 line, and then log in to the big computer.  Then you can
do anything from the IIC that you could from the big computer's keyboard
and monitor (well, minus fancy graphics).

When I first ran Linux, I used my Mac Plus as a terminal, because
I wasn't ready to switch over to Linux and so it was inconvenient
to set up a monitor and keyboard for the 486.
