Ah, hindsight.

I'll tell you what would have happened when those millions would have ben
spent on improving the Apple II. Commodore would have come out with the
Amiga anyway, and would probably have wiped Apple from this earth.

And they nearly did too. Remember those 'Apple Macintosh' emulators on the
Amiga, which ran programs faster than the original Mac 68000? If Apple
wouldn't have had the Mac, I'm sure they would have even been off worse.
Apple made it because their OS was much more professional than the Amiga's.
