Re: Who still uses floppies these days?

Hmmm, way back (around the 1998 to 1999 timeframe), I worked as a part
time administrative assistant at a major university in the Bay Area.
Believe it or not, but the computers at my office were not networked.
Most of the computers were connected to phone lines and used DIAL-UP!
:D

In any case, without a high-speed internet link and a network to fall
back on, files were transfered by floppy and zip disk. Of course,
these days if any files need to be transfered, most people either carry
it around on their USB Flash drives or send it via email since high
speed internet is readily available to mostly everyone.

I would guess that the majority of businesses these days have high
speed internet and/or a network to share files. Situations such as my
old office would probably be a real small minority these days. But I
am sure they exist somewhere.

As for me personally, I have a USB Flash drive around that I used in my
old job. I still have a stash of 3.5 floppies that have remained
unusued. The floppies actually sit near some other unused items:
60-min CASSETTE TAPES. :)
