Mitch, get an old PC serial cable (9-pin) and an old PC joystick
(15-pin).  Then cut both cables at an appropriate point and strip
the wires.  Use a continutiy tester to find out which wires connect
to which pins, then twist the appropriate wires together to make
your video cable.

At a thrift store, these should be about $1-$3 each.

If you "stagger" the lengths of the individual wires, and put some
heat shrink tubing over one end before joining (with or without solder),
you can actually make a reasonably compact cable splice.  If you can
fine a piece of larger heatshrink tubing (to put over one whole cable
before joining), then you can seal the whole thing up nicely.

Tape will work, too, of course, but it's a bit messier.
