Apple IIe: Video Signal "NTSC-Compatible", Not "NTSC-Compliant"

I bought Sharp XA305 video recorders to record the video from my Apple
IIe systems: however, I am able to record only black and white pictures.

To have a true NTSC signal designed for videotaping, the Video Overlay
Card is required.

Actually when I want a real NTSC video signal, I pump the IIe through my VCR and let it blur the digital dignal into a color one. :)

That works quite well, and often standardizes the sync in the process.
