Re: Games: Apple IIgs vs. Atari ST vs. Amiga

If I may speak from personal experience...

In college, between 1988 and 1992, my 4 roommates and I had:

Me: Apple //e. accelerated with a Transwarp
Dave: Apple IIGS, standard
Jeff: Amiga 1000
Greg: Atari ST

...and it was all by dumb luck. Other than Dave, we were all experts on
our respective machines. I was a Beagle Brother. Jeff programmed games
for Antic Magazine. Greg programmed games for some Atart magazine that
I can't remember the name of. Dave played games all the time. In fact,
we all did.

And with that said, based PURELY on my memories...

The Amiga generally had the most visually impressive games, and with
the best audio too, and with smoother animation and speed. By FAR. The
Atari was next, but with worse audio. The IIGS brought up the rear: it
wasn't bad, but there was just no horsepower for any significant
animation at speed. Music was very impressive, but sampled WAV sounds
were paltry in comparison.

I think most developers knew this, and the standout games for the GS
built slowness into the gameplay. I think of Zany Golf or Dungeon
Master as good examples of this type of game: good graphics, but SLOW
animation, but made up for in clever gameplay.

I'll duck now...
