Thanks. dict.leo.org has "Schreibwalze" (which is what we're talking about) but also "Tiegel", which it translates back to: crucible, pan, platen, pot, skillet.
I'm not really getting why you'd call two so different concepts by the same word, but whatever, obviously the translation "platen" is correct.
