There were three versions of the ImageWriter II, though the easiest way
to tell them apart is by visual inspection rather than model numbers:
-The original (circa 1985) is snow-white in color matching the Apple IIc,
and has a bare cover--nothing but an Apple logo at the corner.
-The platinum (circa 1986) is light-grey in color matching the Apple IIgs,
and has the lettering "ImageWriter II" printed on the cover.
-The ImageWriter II/L (circa 1989) has a power-icon symbol next to the
On/Off switch (circle with "I" in the center). The AC and mini-DIN8
connectors plugged into the back left and right sides rather than the legs
of the printer. It is also noticeably lighter in weight and if you run the
self-test, it'll report it has a 24K RAM buffer built-in.
There was never a beige model, you're thinking of the ImageWriter 1
(which only came in that one color; no white or grey versions exist).
In summary you just need to have a quick look at the front panel:
absence or presence of the model name? Power icon symbol?
