That was me--but the A+ mouse is a "1st generation" optical mouse, which requires a special reflective pad with vertical and horizontal stripes (of different colors). Your best bet might be a "Bitmouse" card plus an optical PC "bus" mouse--if there were any... ;-( Maybe an AT mouse adapter would be a good thing for someone to offer--I recall that a couple of folks have made them. -michael Music synthesis for 8-bit Apple II's!
