Yes I think that would have worked out faster. Probably didn't think of
it at the time, not much point now.

It would have been rather messy, because we were heavily reliant on
interrupts. It would have required moving in small bursts with
interrupts locked out, switching back to the real stack and sniffing for
interrupts.
