The earliest version(s?) of ProDOS would boot on an Apple II with only
48K of RAM, and either Integer BASIC or Applesoft ROMs. Obviously there
was less RAM available to programs than on a machine with 64K of RAM.

I'm not sure about the later versions, but many ProDOS versions worked fine
on a 64K Apple II with Integer BASIC ROM; you just couldn't run Applesoft
programs.

There was a developer prerelease of ProDOS that included support for
Integer BASIC, but that was never delivered as part of an official
customer release. I was a beta tester, but alas, I no longer have any
of the materials from the beta program. I've been hoping to find
someone with a copy, but haven't had any luck so far.
