Re: Apple II VGA video card and the IIgs
I checked out your Video Card Project site Jorge. You definately have
some great ideas!
Something to highly consider is cost. In order for these new video
modes to be usable, you need to get a LOT of buyers. Many buyers = a
well accepted product, THEN people might start incorporating these
video modes into programs. Otherwise you'll have a great novelty that
some people might expirement with, but won't spend extensive
development time on, and most people will end up using this card just
as a VGA monitor adapter. (Kind of like what people are doing with the
second sight.)
In a nutshell, you need to keep cost low, if you go godzooks on
creating every video mode imaginable, then A) the card will be more
expensive and B) there will be so many video modes that people won't
know which one to use - or more likely every program will be using a
different video mode. So from a marketing standpoint, I suggest
implementing as many video modes as possible while keeping costs at a
minimum - so the thing sells like gangbusters! Definately try to
implement as many of the "100% compatible" video modes as possible, and
if some of the "non-compatible" modes come easily, throw them in.
Keep those creative juices flowing in the meantime.
