Re: IIgs Battery Solutions / IIe Power Supply / TurboASB

Hey Paul.

Thanks for the info. Being the 'research' guy at GSE-Reactive.com I didn't
have much success acquiring info on the TurboASB. I didn't find any info
that was newer then 10-12 years old. I found it was produced by Lightning
Systems, but do a search for that on the Internet provides too many useless
results. From what I can tell Lightning Systems is also out of business, or
is/was just Ron Higgins at a PO Box. I think I may have found a current
email address for him (rhiggins(at)execpc.com). Hopefully the address is
still good and I'll receive a response back.

I also see I was wrong, that the Turbo ASB extends a SSC's speed to
230,400bps, not 115,200 like I had once thought. Although possible, I don't
think there is any software that supports it and a IIe would probably need
an accelerator to be fast enough to deal with it. The new SSC baud rates
with the Turbo ASB are 38.4K, 57.6K,115.2K and 230.4K.

As I've said before, I'm not looking to step on any toes. Just provide
legacy hardware options for current Apple II users. Hopefully I can get in
touch with Ron and we can re-offer the Turbo ASB to the Apple II community.
If not we will at least be offering the 65C51 IC's for those who want to
correct the handshaking issue on the SSC.

I'll post my results here in the next few days.

Thanks again for the info! By the way, may I ask what exactly was your roll
with the Turbo ASB?
