The problem is Apple copyright, not patent.  The ROM firmware is
protected by copyright.  Apple would probably never sell their rights,
but VTEC makers of the Laser 128 line of clones might liscense theirs.
VTEC wrote their ROMs from scratch without looking at any Apple code.
