Agreed! I learned 65xx machine code back in the 80's from my C=64 and C=128... (Which my Apple II using friends kept consulting me about.) I picked up some Atmel AVR's, and very quickly wrote assembly language applications for my band's MIDI setup. (Metronome, channel router and keyboard splitter are the currently used devices.) I never considered using a C compiler or a compiled BASIC.
