Sneakernet rules!

Are you including the time to take the monitor off the
Apple II and open the case, remove the interface card,
remove the CF card from the interface card, and the
reverse to put it all back together?

As I noted, I always have the top off, and I remove and
insert the CF card with the CFFA still in the machine
(but turned off, of course), so it's not much more
time than plugging it into my PC.

This is really about bandwidth vs. latency. If you want quick access
to a few files, or you're switching back and forth between frequently
(perhaps testing something), then a network connection is a big plus.
For bulk data transfers, removable media wins.

Good point--thanks for pointing out the apples and oranges. ;-)

In my original response, I mentioned moving about 2MB of data,
which borders on a bulk transfer in the Apple world.

Perhaps in part because of the "connection latency" I experienced
for many years--Apple to ProDOS disk, Mac to PC disk, and PC to
whatever--my experience with CiderPress and CFFA is that it's an
"almost immediate" transfer of anything saved to my Apple "hard
disk" to/from the PC.

Backups are especially convenient, with my entire 4x32MB environment
backed up to the PC in a minute!

I've also used about a 10KB/sec transfer using Crossworks, and
that operation was even more disruptive of my train of thought.

As a result, I do most development and debugging on the //e, and
move things to and from the PC only to bring a bunch of files over
or to produce a listing--a fairly "batchy" usage.
