Likewise, you can avoid using the expensive socket adapters if you have
some soldering skills. There is a row of holes beneath the 600mil
sockets that are designed for 300mil SRAMS. You can A) desolder the
entire socket and install a skinny one. B) in some cases, you can cut
apart the existing socket in such a way that you expose the row of
holes, and then install an single inline socket. 300mil SRAMS can
bridge, using 1/2 of the old socket + the new inline strip socket.
Also for speed, you'll need to upgrade the 7400 logic to at least
74HCTxx but better to use 74AHCTxx or 74FCTxxT logic. Avoid FCT logic
without the second "T" suffix due to noise considerations.
