Re: FPGApple + ARM?



I've heard the comparison before, probably because of the simplicity of
both compared to x86 lineage processors. I mean this in terms of the
orthogonality of the instruction set (somewhat, in the 6502, and
beautifully so in the ARM) but more noticeably in the goal of mimizing
clock cycles per instruction.

It probably doesn't bear closer scrutiny though. ;-)

The ARM instruction set is a work of art. Every instruction is
conditional. I can recall 'borrowing' a small crucial routine written
by Acorn and squeezing one more conditional cycle out of it. It felt
great to beat the makers. ;-)
