There were versions for Pascal and BASIC. They used to be available from APDA. I've been trying to think of the name - I'm pretty sure it was something unoriginal like "Mouse Tools".

Apple Desktop Toolkit for Pascal or ProDOS. The ProDOS version works with assembly or Applesoft. You might be able to get them from Syndicomm still but I haven't looked recently. Besides the desktop tools there are some interesting low level graphics routines as well.
