Hi Rich et al.. I appreciate the input.
The oscillators I purchased are from JDR and look exactly like the old one.
They're the large oscillators with 4 pins. The FAQ mentions an OSC50.0
oscillator from JDR that got the author up to 10Mhz. I purchased an OSC40.0
and an OSC48.0 (they don't carry OSC50.0 any more) so it seems that I have
pretty much the same parts as that author.
The processor clock frequency is the oscillator frequency divided
by 4. A 50MHz oscillator corresponds to a 12.5MHz processor clock.
But the ILSI part number generator (mentioned in the original post) still
bothers me. When you use it it says that an HCOF-1 is a 1.8v part. Maybe the
part # generator doesn't work right?
For the sake of completeness, here's the lettering on the old and the new
oscillators:
ORIGINAL PART: ILSI HCOF-1 32.000Mhz 2292
NEW 40Mhz ONE: RASCO PLUS SE 40.000 MHZ 9016 SP98
NEW 48Mhz ONE: TOYOCOM TC0-711THC 48.000Mhz 9137 JAPAN
FWIW, the labelling of the oscillator is not very important--there
are lots of manufacturers and all the 5v oscillators are essentially
interchangeable. For example, all three oscillators mentioned above
are from different manufacturers.
Just make sure that you have a 5v oscillator and get it in the socket
properly.
Oscillators are very reliable unless subjected to severe overvoltages
or lots of G force.
