The physical format isn't different, just the filesystems.  You can
format it on the PC and use MS-DOS utilities on the IIgs, or format it
for ProDOS on the IIgs and use CiderPress under Windows, or format it
for HFS and use HFS utilities for Windows.

If you do format it on the IIgs, make sure you partition it first (with
ADU or the RamFAST utils).  If you just format it as one big block volume,
the IIgs may reject it if you eject and re-insert it.
