A likely suspect is the old and now failing electrolytics directly
driven by the diode bridge. After discharging all electrolytics
(because bleeder resistor may also have failed), then use a multimeter
to see if capacitors can slowly charge and remain charged. A shorted
cap would explain destroyed diodes.
