Another possibility, if you're using a IIGS and some other machine that runs
either Mac OS or Linux, would be to put an HFS filesystem on the card and
use the native HFS support provided by the systems in question.

(Yes, Linux supports HFS (but not the journaled variant of it in newer
versions of Mac OS X).  Yes, Linux's HFS support works on architectures
other than 68K and PowerPC.  I've used it on x86.  It should work on AMD64
as well, but I haven't tested it there.)
